About ME
 |
Mechanical Engineering
parallels with Electrical Engineering in large-scale production
nowadays, integrating with quality assurance and operational
management to ensure on-time delivery of products with
robustness. |
 |
Generally speaking,
it could be roughly classified into mechanical design,
analysis, manufacturing. |
 |
First, in the
conceptual design, the input originates from Voice of
Customer, market feedback, and competitors counterparts,
all of which could be decomposed and quantified into key
parameters by QFD, that is, CTQ. Actually, majority of
MNCs have take into consideration product manufacturing,
assembly, delivery, maintenance and recall concurrently
during preliminary design. That is why Fault Tree Analysis
and Design FMEA are deployed to mitigate the foreseeable
risks thereafter. Additionally, it is recommended to adhere
to worldwide and local code to ensure the compatibility
and replaceability with other components or subsystems. |
 |
With the key
parameters available, conceptual design proceeds into
critical components design, including but not limited
to geometrical modeling in software, such as ProE, UG,
CATIA, etc. Meanwhile, before prototype buildup, it is
advisable to execute simulation in virtual model. For
instance, ProE/Mechanica/Mechanism and ANSYS is specialized
in component stress analysis for qualified Factor of Safety,
and system motion analysis to obtain velocity and acceleration
at some specified point. In case of target value of subsystem/components
available, it is feasible and much cost-saving to modify
geometry dimension or replace material in virtual model,
other than prototype. Concurrently, the supplier should
be nailed down by sourcing team to provide technical support
in manufacturability, including raw material, machining,
quality control and etc. |
